The Adventures of Robin Hood by Roger Lancelyn Green

A retelling very popular in its day. I read it for historical knowledge, and like it better than some, which diverge too far from the source material with unhappy results, but not, I think, as well as Pyle's. It sticks to the source materials, but roves farther than the ballads, including plays and elements from Ivanhoe, and latter ballads which were not congruous with the earlier ones. Robin is an earl, as in the latter material, and the result is not entirely harmonious.

The style is not Pyle's archaic stylization, but it is bald and flat-footed, and tells too much rather than shows.
