Cloak of Iron by Jonathan Moeller

Cloak Mage book 5 Spoilers ahead for the earlier books

Opens with Nadia's (first person) point of view as she drives back from Florida from the last book. She's thinking of seeing her husband again, and thinking about how she's just reacting to the villains, not getting ahead. And then the High Queen summons her. To the meeting, where an Elven noble demands justice for the death of another. Yes, the killer is dead, but the one who sold him the weapon capable of killing an elf must be brought to justice. (He also has a servant try to probe Nadia's mind. Poor taste. It goes badly for him.) After, the queen sends Nadia to learn that, and Neil Freeman is also there, and will be sent with her to search.

Neil Freeman's (third person) point of view fills us in on what he has learned and been doing.

And the third-person point of view of Lauren, who lives in a small town, lets us know some of what they are facing in their search.

It involves a drunk driver, cooperative criminals, two criminal organizations clashing, necromancy, using a seal against the undead, an elf growing senile but still with magic power, and more.
