Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao is my new favourite book of 2021! Zetian becomes a co-pilot for the giant robots fighting the aliens invading Huaxia.
As a Pacific Rim fan, I've been having a grand time with Emily Skrutskie's novels, Gearbreakers by Zoe Hana Mikuta, and now Iron Widow. Once again, I would definitely watch this as a movie.
This will also appeal to Word of Honor fans, as it's inspired by Chinese history and mythology and has morally grey characters worth rooting for.
It has a beautiful writing style and feels like an adult read, despite being technically a YA book.
It brilliantly deconstructs gender roles and has major m/m/f.
