Vampire: The Masquerade: Walk Among Us

Vampire: The Masquerade: Walk Among Us was intriguing. It groups 3 vampire novellas.

When I was young, I used to buy books at the supermarket and I got myself a Vampire: The Masquerade anthology without having ever heard of the RPG. A couple of years later, I started watching Kindred: The Embraced and I quickly realised that it was a Vampire: The Masquerade TV series. I loved it, but it was cancelled way too soon. Now comes this new anthology, and there are also talks of a future show, so that's exciting.

You don't need to be familiar with Vampire: The Masquerade to read this, though they should have included a list of the clans and their characteristics. You can find one online here (scroll down to the middle of the page).

In "A Sheep Among Wolves" by Genevieve Gornichec, the protagonist has depression and anxiety. A major character has fibromyalgia and is a lesbian. It was a bit slow to start, but good.

In "Fine Print" by Cassandra Khaw, the protagonist is a huge asshole, but things aren't going well for him. That was an original take. I wouldn't have liked it as a novel, it worked better as a novella, but I would have preferred it as a short story.

In "The Land of Milk and Honey" by Caitlin Starling, most of the characters are LGBT. It was the longest story and my favourite.

genre: horror, author: s, author: k, author: g, review, category: anthology
