about 14.5: i liked that one, as well as sex with the queen by the same author.

about 3.5: i had never heard about her before the book either.

Oooh, I'll have to check out the Sex With the Queen book. Thank you!

Interesting! Now that I know who she is, I have come across very, very small mentions of her. I just must not have noticed them before? or maybe more people are mentioning her? How about you? Have you come across her since reading the book?

i think i came across one or two mentions of her. i've read a lot of historical fiction & non-fiction set during that time-period in italy & you're more likely to come across stuff on the de' medici or the d'este families.

i don't think i have, but i read the catherine de medici bio the author wrote. it was pretty good. of course now that i read a somewhat positive take on her, it's hard to read anything that paints her as an evil b!tch.

Have you read any other bios of Catherine de Medici? if so, which one would you recommend? or would you recommend the one you mentioned?

Yeah, I feel that way about Lucrezia Borgia!

that's the only one i read about her & i do recommend it. i did read one about her daughter margaret of valois (i can't recall the name) where she was a minor character, so to speak, but that's it.

i read more historical fiction than non-fiction histories. a lot by philippa gregory, jean plaidy, & alison weir (they mostly deal with british royals) i recently discovered elizabeth chadwick, who wrote several books that take place around the time of king henry II of england.

Cool. I tried to read Philippa Gregory, but I didn't like her. I LOVED Sharon K. Penman when I read her as a kid, but I haven't read any of her books as an adult, have you? I wonder if I should try again. When Christ and His Saints Slept

i don't think i've ever read any of penman's books.

most of alison weir's books are pretty good. i liked the children of henry VIII & queen isabella: treachery, adultery, and murder in medieval england (those are non-fiction) i think she's only none a few novels.

i've never read wolf hall.

i don't mind the questions too much, and the comment string isn't too long.

I loved Weir's Queen Isabella book. I haven't read the children one though, I'll check it out.
