Book 72: Letters in Cardboard Boxes

Feb 23, 2012 19:35

Letters in Cardboard Boxes is a tail of both sacrifice and growth, and that feeling of always taking one step forward to be met with falling two steps back. Abby Slovin does a wonderful job at describing her characters and the events, but at some points, the writing can become somewhat mundane. It's almost as if she wasn't sure what to write and simply kept moving forward until she latched onto a new idea to explore. However, I found a lot of joy in reading this book, even though it was hard for me to admit that I was much like Abby's main character, Parker. That was a hard pill to swallow, but the struggles Parker goes through are genuine, which makes this tale even more beautiful.
