The MRI yesterday showed damage from being without oxygen and swelling in his brain. They drilled a hole in his head to insert a monitor to check the pressure in his skull. When they inserted the bolt the pressure was at 40 (normal is around 10), but the act of drilling the hole itself lowered the pressure to 20, which they told us is where they want it because as long as the pressure is below 20 they can treat it with other things to keep it low. If it stayed at 40 there would have been nothing they could do.
Also inserting the bolt increased the blood flow to his brain. It was at 40, and it should be over 60. When the bolt was inserted it raised the blood flow back up to between 60 and 70.
They're going to do a EEG today to check for brain activity. What we want is for there to be slow and/or random activity. We absolutely don't want for there to be no activity.
They're figuring now that Cory had a heart fibrillation while driving. (One part of his heart beat faster than the rest, causing the rhythm to be off.) That caused him to pass out and caused the wreck. The witness said that he just suddenly veered off the road; he never tried to swerve or break before he hit the poll.
Keep him in your thoughts.
