A book fail turns into a movie fail?

If this isn't apporiate, feel free to take it down mod!

Anyway, I was reading this week's Entertainment Weekly, and in it was an article called "A Question of Murder" about "The Lovely Bones" movie.(I tried to look for the article online, but no such luck.)

Peter Jackson, the director, has chosen not to show the rape and murder scene of Susie Salmon. They orginally tried to sketch it out on the computer, but it didn't work so well--Jackson had crew walking out. Furthermore, Jackson realized he didn't want to let the actress playing Susie have to go through that.

Some critics are critizing this direction, but Jackson stands firmly by it saying that "It's just that showing it didn't feel right for our take on the story,". He also admits to not wanting the scene to overshadow the whole movie.

How do you feel about this? Agree with Jackson? Disagree with Jackson? Don't care.

Personally, I'm glad, although I'm still not sure I'll see it. It was a really intense scene in the book, and I'm not sure it'd work in movie format.
