Luckily for me I didn't buy the book but borrowed it from the Amazon Kindle Library. I almost bought it because it was on sale for $2 I think. But then I decided to wait and see if I liked the book first.

Yeah, the boy never showed any signs of having any "gifts", but he is related to the fairy. And Alethia is related to a fairy as well. Which is why she has her gift. So I think the author was alluding to the fact that the boy can see into the future. But it literally came out of nowhere, because he never once showed that he had that ability. And thinking about the scene now I have to laugh. The parents let him hold the baby and Malcolm tries to take the baby back, but the boy pulls away and then states he's going to marry her. Thinking back, I suddenly get this image of Gollum with the one ring to rule them all. "MY PRECIOUS!" hahahaha. Instead of being concerned (especially Alethia since she's supposed to be from this century) Malcolm laughs it off and says not until she's older or something. And all Alethia wants to do is feed her. It was as if she completely ignored that creepy moment.
