Between the Sea and Sky

I picked up Between the Sea and Sky by Jaclyn Dolamore the other day and thought to myself "Hmmm Mermaids. I haven't read many mermaid stories, hopefully this one will be good." WELL... It wasn't.

Esmerine, the main character has NO personality. She becomes a siren and the first day of her sirenhood her sister Dosia, who is also a siren, disappears. Sirens are infatuated with humans and seem to have this pull to go interact with them and sometimes a human man will steal their siren belt thus making her a human. The merfolk consider them to be lost to them and never chase after them. So why is it Esmerine feels she has to chase after her sister? What makes Dosia so special? Anyway, She turns her fins to legs and does the hobble walk on shore. It is very painful for mermaids to walk. She meets up with a childhood friend Alandar who is a stuck up asshole, but he is a winged being, called Fandarsee. He helps Esmerine find her sister. They find her in the mountains and her reason for disappearing wasn't for her being in danger like we were kind of led to believe, She straight up gave her belt to some dude.

It's like this pretty much.
HEY! I came all this way to save you!
Yeah, I gave my belt to that guy
So you are fine
Yep.
Ok.

Esmerine goes home and tells her family she is giving Alandar her belt and they get married. The end. Seriously. Thats what happened.

Waste of my time.

The story had a plot, it just didn't follow through with it. It felt rushed. This story felt like it didn't get the time or thought it needed to be considered readable. The characters were weak and had no personalities. The only people who had any semblance of personality were assholes. The dialogue was tacky. Overall, This book should have never made it through the publishers. Send it back for a redo!
