So Canadians, being all wacky like that, have Thanksgiving on the second Monday in October. This, of course, means that there are two uninterrupted months of Christmas sales, starting the day after Halloween. Thanksgiving isn't a huge deal up here; it's kind of just another three-day weekend, and people have Thanksgiving dinner sometime on Saturday or Sunday or Monday. But it makes a convenient excuse for a dinner party. Also, while my tradition OCD would never let me do it on American Thanksgiving, it's kind of fun to have a non-hardcore-New-England Thanksgiving menu.
The menu:
Wensleydale cheese and homemade crackers
Mulled cider
Turkey en croute with sausage-apple stuffing
Root vegetables roasted in citrus oil with garlic and ginger
Sautéed green beans
Homemade bread
Indian pudding with whipped cream
Matt is inordinately pleased with the cheese, which we found at Costco, and keeps going on about "fancying a spot of Wensleydale." Those of you who are Wallace and Grommit fans will understand.
Oh, Canada.
If you happen to be in the neighborhood at 4:30 on Saturday...
