So.

I seem to have acquired a diploma-shaped thing.

O.O!!!!!!!!

Guys, if you want to give me a graduation present, leave me drabble prompts please! It's a long flight home tomorrow, and a longer few weeks after that as that whole Real World Terror thing starts to hit, and so write-y distractions would be useful for both.

In the normal order of things, Colin Craven would have been trained up as a Watcher himself; but as his father had cut all ties with the Council in the aftermath of Mrs Craven's unfortunate death, Colin had been very carefully kept away from the whole business. Mr Craven gave orders that the words ‘vampire,’ ‘Slayer,’ ‘Watcher’, should never again be spoken within the walls of Misselthwaite Manor. He burnt his diaries in the library grate, and set out for the Continent. There Mr Craven made a habit of taking long walks after dark, and while he always carried stakes and crosses on his person, he should not have been displeased to be killed by a creature of the night.

When Colin appeared to be an invalid, Mr Craven was in some measure relieved of a concern; if the boy was sickly, he would never serve the Council, or stand beside a Slayer. Later, as Colin grew into health, Mr Craven never once spoke of vampires, and would not let anyone speak of Dark Magic in his presence. In fact, even when Colin Craven spoke of good Magic, meaning only the power of life itself, Mr Craven would generally flinch and change the subject at once.

Naturally, when Mr Wyndham came for Martha, there was a great row in the house. Every upper servant and underservant knew that Mr Craven took Mr Wyndham into his library and shouted at him for some hours, and that the fourth housemaid was obliged to clean broken glass and the last of the brandy off the floorboards afterwards. But nothing could be done; Martha Sowerby had been Chosen, and in his deepest heart Mr Craven found himself glad that it was Martha, and not Mary.

Thus it may well be understood that, when Mrs Sowerby came to thank Mr Craven for Colin’s and Mary’s help in rescuing Sue Ellen from a clutch of vampires, Mr Craven flew into a fury of a kind no one had seen since the day Lilias Craven died.
