Totes looking forward to you writing about the book. I've been meaning to read it forever (and actually own an unabridged Fahnestock translation), since I think I'd like it a lot (and I also, of course, really love the musical).
hahaha man I'm gonna spoil you so much, sorry in advance! (YOU SHOULD READ ALONG WITH ME. If you start now you still have time to catch up.. :D? I would be so curious about what you thought!)
You're further along than I am! I'm almost at the very end of the first book, right after Sister Simplice's Big Lie.
Fantine totally made me cry, which I did not expect! So did Valjean at the end. I never cry in movies, but man, Les Mis is a special case. (Poor grown-up Cosette! I always want rewrites in which she gets actual agency, because Lord knows she has none in the novel or the play.)
Glah. Now I am somewhat torn between my usual random reading and deciding I want to read along with you on the Les Mis revisit (my last reading was at 12 years of age, when I was completely obsessed with the musical) or dun dun dun, rereading the Robert Jordan books before the last one comes out (probably impossible).
Obviously I encourage everyone to read along with me on Les Mis, although, er, I understand that it's something of a a Project. BUT LESS OF A PROJECT THAN REREADING ROBERT JORDAN. :D?
