IT'S LIKE A BRAIN-EATING MONSTER. I am battling hard not to let the rest of my week just turn into 'make hundreds of dorky icons' time. I HAVE OTHER STUFF TO DO THIS WEEK, SELF.

HAHAHAHA I KNOW. I was going to say, 'it's in extra chapters, so I don't know if it counts,' but then I realized if I didn't count those I also couldn't count the hilarious chapter where A DEMON TRIES TO EAT SHIN and I really want to count the hilarious chapter where a demon tries to eat Shin. THE ULTIMATE IN DAMSELING.

Haha, omg, I KNOW, I KNOW. I read it TWO TIMES AND A HALF over the span of three days, I think it was. That and the extra chapters, which...hahaha. I really didn't think they would go as far, but what do you know, after the dog? Apparently I also ship it!

SHIN IS SUCH A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS. It's a bid ridic! And yet I really love the manga that despite the fact that he occupies a role usually reserved for women there really is no crap there. No "Ugh, you're such a GIRL, how terrible!". It just is, Yankumi being all 'BE MORE MANLY' aside. (I admit that in the first few chapters I went ): because she said something to the effect of "STOP GOSSIPING LIKE OLD WOMEN" and I didn't know how to take it)

I THINK I HAVE PRETTY MUCH DONE THE SAME THING. Like, I did not actually sit down and reread it from the beginning, but every time I would save an image for this picspam I would just go read all the surrounding chapters which probably balanced out to the same thing? AND I KNOW RIGHT. I just keep telling myself that he's already graduated, six years is not a huge age difference, I don't need to feel that guilty . . . (Then I reread the extra chapters another ten times.)

I really love that too! Like, I make fun of Shin for being such a damsel in distress, but I also really enjoy that he's clearly very competent, just out of his depth. And even when Fujiyama is the damsel-in-distress (which also happens occasionally) she isn't treated as weak either. (Yeah, I remember that. :/ But then there are also awesome old women! And overall, the manga just seems to have a lot of respect for women, even in the bit parts - I love Ucchi's horror-buff girlfriend, for example.)

I was forewarned about the shipping from reading various people's pimp posts, but I did not expect it to start quite so early! I was like "dang, it's the second or third chapter and he is ALREADY obviously eyehearting! NOT THAT I CAN BLAME HIM, YANKUMI IS AWESOME

Yeaaah. I remember issuing one such warning. I REALLY LIKE SEEING DUDES IN FICTION BEING VERY IN LOVE WITH AWESOME LADIES. It's great!

Hero/Sidekick, yes, but also Hero/Damsel! Where the damsel is not as awesome as the hero, I guess, but can still do things for himself! (You don't even have to tell, they SAY AS MUCH)

Ah, yes. The story allows different kinds of women to have their own strength! <33

Hahahaha, I know, right? Althouuugh he was a bit of jerk there for a while because it was obvious that he would not be involved with both Yankumi AND her family and whatever it was he might or might not have felt for her...he just let her continue pining after him and did nothing. Which, really, is why I truly do love that bit you pointed out!

I AM TOTALLY OKAY WITH THIS ALSO. I really love how Shin just kind of calmly accepts midway through that he is in complete and utter thrall to Yankumi's awesome - as everyone should be - and just rolls with it!

*giggling* EXACTLY. The damseling will never fail to crack me up. Though I also love those moments where you can tell they actually have grown into a partnership - like that time they disarm the student with the suicide bomb, and Yankumi is like "SHIN, VAGUE ORDER!" and Shin is like "OKAY, ON IT" and the vice-principal is like @__@ HOW DID YOU DO THAT. Or the time they start yelling at Kuma about disappointing his mom in hilarious unison.

Yeah, I suspect Shinohara kind of liked being the Enigmatic Attractive One. And was flattered by her being into him! But obviously was not nearly as into her as she was into him, or as Shin was into her.

He really is very calm about the whole thing, isn't he? His nerdy-looking idiot teacher is yakuza? Okay. She is THE GRANDAUGHTER of their boss? Fine! She is starting to ask him for advice and opinions? Alright! She is really sort of awesome and he likes her? Probably!

I knooow. Twi things suprised me about that pairing: 1) That it was even there. The series could have lived without a romance. 2) THAT IT WORKED, since, uh, it really really does! AND STOP TELLING ME ABOUT COOL THINGS. IT MAKES ME WANT TO REREAD AND I NEED TO FINISH MY LADYFEST PIC AND DO HOMEWORK. (Sorry about ladyfest, so, so, so sorry)

I'LL GO WORK ON IT NOW! I made a couple of unwise decisions there...like trying to draw things I find very challenging, ON A DEADLINE! I do not think they were unwise decisions, considering the resulting excellence! I don't remember if I mentioned it to you, but I always thought Shin was so obviously her lieutenant. :D Like that one time when she made the boxing club and put his name down as president and his reaction was basically *sigh* okay then. What next? as it continues to be every time she does something like that.
