I adore bookcrossing, and I have to admit that everytime I sit down at a cafe or some other place and find a book crossing book, it's like its own unique thrill!

One thing that I adore about bookcrossing is that half of the time I would never have picked up the book in general, and then, suddenly, I've got this book to read and understand in Read more... )

I stopped leaving books around because I've never heard of them afterwards.

It's true.

It's a bit difficult to handle after a while, because so many don't put it back online.

It can somethimes take years before a book is journalled, Why not ask in a local coffee shop if you can have a corner for some books and start an official bookcrossing zone? That way you have somewhere safe to set books free and because you will need to check it regularly you will soon find that people are leaving unregistered books there so you can set up a bookshelf on bookcrossing for the OBCZ and register them there - it is what I did.

The whole point of bookcrossing is to release books

I can't remember but I think it was seventy. Sometimes I like to do mass releases on a day with a special theme, such as Valentine's day.

I don't hear bac from most of my books either... but that doesn't stop me. Most of them will be found and even read, even if I don't hear back. And I hear back from enough of them to remain motivated.

I find that most of the people why say they've never gotten any journal entries have released three of four books. Which, of course, is not a large number for an activity that has a 'success rate' (if you want to see it like that) of about 15%.
