Reminder of where we are in the story:
The story is alternating between an older Locke and when he first came under Chains' care.
We learn about how Locke Lamora first came to meet the Thiefmaker, and then how he managed to get a number of other kids serving the Thiefmaker killed and himself sold to Chains.
The older Locke Lamora is working with his team - Jean, Bug, Calo, and Galdo to pull off a scheme that will rob Don Salvara of a large chunk of his fortune. He pretends to be in the alcohol business and convinces Don Salvara that he belongs to a very prestigious family, the House of bel Auster. With the turmoil near his home, he claims he will have to burn the vineyards and that he has many casks of drink hidden away, and offers Don Salvara the opportunity to join his business if only he will extend Locke a large loan, ship, etc to get the casks away from the city before war breaks out. The Don in return will get a portion of the sales of the extremely rare brandy as well as a percentage of profits in the future. He and his wife appear to fall completely for the scheme.
Ideas for discussion:
1) What do you think of the story so far?
2) Any thoughts on the world building we've gotten thus far or the characters?
3) Father Chains and the death offering... quite the code of honor for thieves, isn’t it? What kind of person do you think Chains is going to mold Locke into?
4) Do you like the way the story is being told so far with the multiple timelines?
