Dear flist: today, I have triumphed.
I triumphed first over my Junetide, which is now officially done. I then triumphed the Living With Depression post, which has been kicking my ass for the past couple of weeks. I triumphed further over installing something on my computer which Did Not want to be installed, and has now been made to do as it was told. I finally triumphed in receiving a fuckton* of books I had ordered, which I will now list Because I Want To.
1) Basil in the Land of the Pygmy Cats, Eve Titus. If you do not like Basil of Baker Street, we are not friends anymore.
2) Firebirds, ed. Sharyn November, a fantasy anthology.
3) Starfighters of Adumar, Aaron Allston. If you are familiar with the X-wing series, you'll be cheering right about now.
4) I Jedi, by Michael Stackpole. What can I say, I like Corran. And Mirax. I love me some Mirax.
5, 6, 7) Jane and... the Prisoner of Wool House, the Ghosts of Netley, His Lordship's Legacy. I now own all of the Jane Austen Mysteries except the most recent one, Jane and the Canturbury Tale, and the two anthologies with Jane in (*bats eyelashes at flisters with disposable income and nothing to do*).
8) How to Marry a Marquis, Julia Quinn. Featuring Lady Danbury in a starring role. I love Lady Danbury. I love her SO MUCH I can't even. The hero and heroine are cute too, but mostly, LADY DANBURY. I do love Julia Quinn's tendency to populate her romance novels' supporting casts with badass elderly ladies who have no fucks to give, and Lady Danbury is the best of the bunch.
9) Fortune's Fool, Mercedes Lackey. My favorite of the fairy tale series, I think. Though Beauty and the Werewolf wasn't half bad.
10) Bitch: In Praise of Difficult Women, Elizabeth Wurtzel. I borrowed this from the Women's Center in college, and remember loving it, so I relish the chance to love it again.
11) The Star of Kazan, Eva Ibbotson. I love Eva Ibbotson, and I love The Star of Kazan.
12) A Countess Below Stairs, Eva Ibbotson. Funny story: I sat down to read the first chapter of this one in a bookstore in NYC, waiting for Pris to get off work. Sampling, you know? Well, five hours later, I finished the last chapter and realized Pris was waiting for me, so I had to book it and did not get to purchase the book. Well, it's mine now.
13, 14, 15) Sword and Sorceress volumes VI, X, and XII. I love these anthologies so much. Lady-centric sword and sorcery fantasy? CAN I GET A HELL YES.
16) Wilful Impropriety, an anthology about Regency fantasy. You guys know that Regency fantasy is like my Kryptonite, and this one has such authors as Stephanie Burgis, M.K. Hobson, Mary Robinette Kowal, Marie Brennan, and Caroline Stevermer in it. SOLD. YES. I paid five pounds for it, seven counting shipping, and WORTH EVERY PENNY.
This Friday: MOAR BOOK SHOPPING. I love how everybody gives me book certificates for my birthday. It's like they know me or something.
*Sixteen. Sixteen counts as a fuckton, right?
