Star Wars!!

Yesterday I saw Rogue One.

*insert pterodactyl screech here*

Let's talk about some Star Wars books.

The Weapon of a Jedi, Jason Fry and Phil Noto

In Which Luke Skywalker, after the events of A New Hope, fucks off to try and learn him some Jedi techniques. He's currently being celebrated as the hero of Yavin, and being the adorable little ray of human sunshine that he is, he's Very Uncomfortable with this; plus the Force is calling him, so he goes to the planet Devaron and discovers a Jedi temple.

There's not a lot that happens in this book. There is a plot of sorts, as Luke evades the Empire and the Rebel acclaim alike, plus a murderous guide who kills would-be hunters and steals their stuff. It's mostly Luke sinking into the Force, learning what he can from the ruins of the temple, and trying to feel his own way out along the Jedi path. I am very invested in Luke, so I really enjoyed this little book, but you may not if you're not as big a fan as I am. Try Leia's book, Moving Target, or Han's book, Smuggler's Run.

Smuggler's Run, Greg Rucka and Phil Noto

In Which Han Solo maintains that he is a strong independent smuggler who don't need no Rebellion even after Leia talks him into rescuing a rebel informant from the teeth of an Imperial strike team. This book is notable mainly for its characters, who are one and all a joy, from Han and Chewie's pitch-perfect relationship to the stoic Major Ematt, to the Imperial commander Alecia Beck (I LOVE HER she is fabulous), to Han's old friend Delia Leighton, owner of the flying bar Miss Fortune.

The plot's fine; it's your basic extraction mission. But the characters are just wonderful and I really hope we get to see some of them in the movies. Especially Alecia Beck and Delia Leighton, who are my favorites forever.

Tomorrow, true crime!
