Banned Books Month

Sep 29, 2015 01:26

Hey hey hey, guess what week it is? That's right, BANNED BOOKS WEEK. And you know what that means: time for me to pick ten banned books to read over the course of October!

I've made a start on that list, but I'd love suggestions. Little-known banned books? Books you think are great that have been challenged somewhere? Let me know! Bonus points for diverse authors.

1. The Color Purple, Alice Walker
2. Lolita, Vladimir Nabakov
3. The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck
4. Saga, by Brian Vaughan and Fiona Staples (first three collections anyway)
5. The Satanic Verses, Salman Rushdie
6. Leaves of Grass, Walt Whitman (thanks
finch!)
7. View from the Cherry Tree, Willo Davis Roberts (thanks for this too,
finch!)
8. Hush, Jacqueline Woodson
9. Fallen Angels, Walter Dean Myers
10. Keeping You a Secret, Julie Anne Peters

eta: List is finalized! Thank you so much for your help!
