Five-Second Review: Oh, Bruce Chadwick, No

Dear Mr. Chadwick:

Let me preface this by saying that I really liked your book The Reel Civil War. It is a very clear and vivid deconstruction of the vast majority of Civil War films, especially as regards the distorted portrayal of the Confederacy and race relations, and I found it extremely helpful in writing my thesis on the portrayal of the ( Read more... )

Um, what in the fuck is that logic. The actor was ~tired~ so clearly the character couldn't have raped anyone? Even putting aside, as you mentioned, the fact that rape doesn't need to be physically coercive to be rape, that just makes no fucking sense whatsoever.

Oh, men. *shakes head*

I DON'T EVEN KNOW. Man. I made a D: face and then facepalmed when I read that, because usually he's so good at logic-y type things! And then... this. Which is just full of "what."

Blah. And the book was so good up until then, too.

I *boggle* at that logic. Actors =/= characters. And the character only had to carry her upstairs once...

Plus, y'know, all the rest of the Fail.

It is not Earth logic. It is... some kind of strange and bizarre logic that bears no resemblence to actual logic. I can't even.

And the sad part is he demonstrates a lot of actual real Earth logic in the rest of the book. WHY THIS FAIL, MR. CHADWICK. WHYYYYY.

That's just the most baffling example of equivocation I've seen in a while. And so...obvious. Did he think it was clever? Like, he really wanted to mention that Gable was exhausted and this was the best segue he could think of?

...mmmmaybe? It's the only reason I can think of for including Clark Gable in this at all. It's like, dude had nothing whatsoever to do with Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara having any kind of sex, why are you dragging him into this?

IDEK, friend. IDEK.
