Awhile ago I took a book called "Dare Truth or Promise" out of the library because it was about two girls kissing, and if you've been here for any amount of time, you know how I feel about two girls kissing. Sadly, the book was more about homophobia and reactions to two girls kissing than it was about two girls actually kissing, although the parts where the girls were kissing or holding hands or hanging out or hanging out on an airport runway watching planes go over their heads were adorable and I loved them. The other bits were... meh. They were realistic, and I won't say they were wrong. They were probably overdramatic, but homophobes and teenagers tend to be overdramatic, so, you know, true to life. I think I just wanted far more girls kissing and far less of what I deal with on a daily basis.
Still, a good book. Dare Truth or Promise, by Paula Boock. Warnings for suicide attempts (yes, plural) as well as a great deal of homophobia, an exceptionally creepy stalker, and teenage angst.
Now I am reading a book in which two boys are exceptionally dumb about kissing each other while solving a mystery in a very clever manner in magical Victorian England. I am overcome with glee.
