Okay so I'm not actually finished reading
Wilful Impropriety, and I will post a complete review when I'm done, but I just had to come here and tell you guys that NOT ONLY are there lesbian ladies and gay gents hanging around and doing magic, NOT ONLY are there lady-friendly endings and at least one marriage where the wife is not at all sleeping with her husband but is sleeping with the guy she's in love with and the husband is aware and A-OK with the arrangement-- in fact it was his idea--, NOT ONLY are there characters of color presented as desirable and having their own agency in a Victorian steampunk-esque romance anthology, BUT ALSO there is a genderqueer character, Sam. Who dresses as a woman or a man depending on how Sam feels that day. And uses pronouns accordingly. And Sam's friends are cool with it, because otherwise they wouldn't be Sam's friends. In fact, Sam being genderqueer actually has very little to do with the story's plot, although it has a large part to do with the theme. And also it's implied that Sam's young lady (Sam has one, her name is Ingrid) is trans.
YOU GUYS.
