3. Do you have a desire to visit another country?
Yes / No
If yes, please name the country/countries:
Pretty much anywhere. But since I'm trying to hit up all the continents except maybe Antartica, South America would be nice, particularly Brazil or Argentina.
4. What would be the most likely purpose of your visit?
Work / Study / Vacation / Other
I don't have any international trips planned right now, but when I do leave the US again, it'll probably be to teach English (i.e. "work"), to go on vacation, or for mission/humanitarian-type work (that's my "other").
5. Have you been to a non-English speaking country? (if English isn't your first language, have you been to a country where your first language isn't spoken?)
Yes / No
6. If yes to #4, did you speak the language?
Yes / No
Well, mostly "no". I do speak a little Spanish, which helped for Spain, Mexico, and even a couple of other countries where Spanish isn't the primary language.
7. If no to #4, would you visit a non-English speaking country? (if English isn't your first language, would you visit a country that doesn't speak your language?)
Yes / No
8. What is the greatest deterrent to your going abroad?
Time / Language Barrier / Cost / Health, Safety Concerns / Other
9. Do you have family or friends living in another country?
Yes / No
10. If yes to #8, do you or do you plan to visit them?
Yes / No
That's a hard question. I'd love to, but I don't know if it's going to happen realistically.
11. Do you think experience abroad is important?
Yes / No
12. If you went abroad / when you go abroad, what experiences are most important to you?
People / Landmarks / History / Culture / Food, Drink / Language / Mission Work / Recreation / 'Been There' Status / Other
Really, it's "all of the above". I just limited myself to 5.
13. Do you believe the same life experiences that could happen abroad could very well happen at home?
Yes / No
Well, it depends. You learn a lot and gain different life experiences whenever you interact with a people/place different from your own. So you could gain some of the same life experiences by traveling within your own country or talking to people even just where you live that are different from you. On the flip side, if you go abroad and mostly just stay around other people like you, you miss a ton of the life experiences. However, going abroad is valuable because it often forces you outside your comfort zone even if you don't want to go there. Also, while you learn something from people and places even just a bit different than you, the more different they are, the more you learn. You have to go abroad to find the people/places the most different from you, even if you do live in a place as large and diverse as the US. Finally, you just can't experience things like the Eiffel Tower or the Colosseum or whatnot if you just stay inside the US.
14. What would be the one country you would NOT want to visit?
Well, I'd kind of what to go anywhere. But I'd much prefer somewhere that's not too dangerous. And if I have to stay there awhile, other factors, such as weather, come into play.
