My dad is changing jobs. That's big news, as he's worked in the same law firm since before I was born and had worked in only one firm before that (for just a short while, until he got laid off). But after 25 years of working for the firm, he's changing to a new one at the end of the month. My dad's not talked a whole lot about the change (I first learned about it from my mom, and he never brought up the subject with me until after he heard my mom and I talking about it), but I think he's both excited and a tad nervous about it. He's still going to be more of an employee than a full fledged partner, but he's getting paid better and its something different. It's a smaller firm than the one he's at now, and they specifically asked him to join just out of the blue. He hadn't been looking for a new job, but his boss had left his current firm indefinitely, so the timing was really good. So anyway, that's sort of the big news for my family, though nobody's made a big deal out of it.
The wedding I went to this past weekend was a ton of fun. I stayed in a cabin at the retreat center where the wedding was being held with some friends from my drama group (of which both the bride and groom are a part of) and the bridesmaids. The bridesmaids were the bride's friends from middle school/high school, and they were a lot of fun to get to know. I spent the weekend helping to decorate for and prepare for the wedding. It's the most behind the scenes I've ever been at a wedding, and I really enjoyed it. The wedding was a small affair put together on a limited budget, but the bride did a beautiful job of it. She put in so much work into it (the groom, friends, and family, of course, helped, but she did SO much on her own) and it really showed. The wedding was outside in the woods in front of a lake, and went without a hitch. The bride pulled up in a carriage with her father (I helped her with her train after she got out and before she walked down the aisle), and then after the wedding she and her new husband went for a ride. The reception was fun as well, though we were all utterly exhausted afterwards and just sort of collapsed in front of the fire in the stove in our cabin after cleaning up. We saw the bride and groom off yesterday morning (the bride got her hair cut by one of her bridesmaids, who is a stylist), and they're now on their way to Hawaii. It's so weird to think that they're actually married now, but I'm very excited for them!
Of course, the wedding got me thinking about my own future wedding, but as I've never even had a boyfriend yet, that day is a long way off. Still, there were some things I learned last weekend that will probably prove helpful whenever it is that I start planning my own wedding.
I'm off to Washington with my mom soon to visit my aunt and cousins. Hooray for Spring Break
