TIME magazine has a list of the 100 greatest novels. Anyone else get a chance to check it out? How many have you read? Anything they missed? :) Some of them, I whole heartedly agree with ( ( Read more... )

Thanks for sharing this. I posted the list in my journal. I've only read 13 on the Time list. Have you seen the Modern Library top 100 list? I was surprised there wasn't more overlap.

I would have liked to see Heart of Darkness (which I haven't read since HS, but remember liking it) and Brave New World (which I read in HS and reread for my book club and realized again how great it is). I was delighted to see Gone with the Wind, which is one of my favorite novels of all time!

I had not seen that list, thanks! Personally, I am surprised that on none of the lists is Amy Tan listed - I love all of her novels!

My pleasure! Book lists are so addictive!

I've not read anything by Amy Tan. Which is your favorite and/or which do you think I should read first?

The Joy Luck club was pretty good, but not one of my favorites. I actually reccomend starting with either The Hundred Secret Senses or The Bone Setters Daughter. Both are amazing, with wonderful narrative. When I read Amy Tan, I am simply engulfed in the world she creates. Of the two, The Bone Setters Daughter is my favorite, and I reccomend you start with that one.

Haha, I'm horribly ashamed to admit there are only 2 on there I've actually read...

There is quite a few on there on my 'to read' list, but tbh, I've never even heard of most of them!

But then my taste in books is fairly narrow - fantasy & history!
