Kingdom Hearts character ponderings

So, people who know me in real life know that, for a time now, I have harbored a bit of a muse!crush on Zexion (Organization XIII’s VI) from Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Recently I was trying to explain why to a friend, since I haven’t played the game myself and don’t write in the fandom, even if I read. I realized, much to my annoyance, that I didn’t have a coherent reason myself. So I made a list.


Why I like Zexion:

1. He’s short. Very short. Short people will one day rule the world. Examples of this truth include Alexander the Great and Napoleon. Both were short, both were tactical geniuses. Which brings me to
2. Zexion is smart. From what we know, it is entirely likely that he is smarter than all the other characters combined. He is, after all, the “cloaked schemer.” Adi likes her characters smarter than you. u.u
3. He fights, for the one soul battle we’ve got with him, with books. Large books, that he makes appear out of nowhere and slam closed on his enemies. Considering he controls illusion, it’d be unsurprising if he made this up himself, in which case he is fulfilling the dream of every nerd everywhere: Smush the jock! XOOOO
4. There’s an angst factor in Zexion that isn’t available in any of the other nobodies. He’s clearly very young. I don’t know if it’s ever stated exactly what age Ienzo was when he lost his heart, but from the looks of things he wasn’t older than Sora, Riku and Kairi by the end of the game. So, fifteen or sixteen. We therefore have: extremely young, extremely smart scientific prodigy works as one of Ansem’s apprentices; young prodigy researches hearts, doesn’t realize the true danger because nobody did; young, maybe-sixteen-year-old prodigy has his heart ripped out by darkness and spends the next ten years struggling to exist on will alone. Does anyone remember being sixteen? I certainly do. It was awful. Your body is going crazy, your hormones are affecting your judgment, and you think you’re a lot more experienced than you actually are. I imagine it was worse for Ienzo, since he was so much smarter than everyone else, but still not as experienced. He made a big mistake, like everyone else did, except he didn’t even have life experience to draw from, and he paid for it with literally everything good about a human being. Then he’s wiped from existence by Axel and Riku-replica. *__* *clears throat* Yes.

In conclusion, Zexion is awesome. Why aren’t there more fics about him in general?
