WORDS YOU HATE

Sep 25, 2006 15:54

Is there a particular word that you hate, or irritates you?

PANTIES

I hate this word!!! It is something that a little kid or a pervert would say. Grown people should not call women's underwear panties. It just creeps me out.

HONRORABLE MENTION:

BULBOUS

Hippie.

Because it means absolutely NOTHING. It has been distorted to the point that it refers to everything from somebody who has left-wing leanings to somebody who smokes pot, or even just wears tie-dye. Or doesn't shave.

But even worse is the word "nigger." It doesn't matter who uses the word, it just makes me irate when I hear it.

Let's not even get me started on racial slurs...

I agree with your hippie explanation.

Do you have a word that just the pronunciation makes you cringe?

Actually, out of my knowledge of both french and english, the only words that cause a unique reaction are just the ones that make me giggle. :)

"Pot de Moutard" - (french: jar of mustard. sounds like "po-duh-moutarr")

Duty.

belly.

"Boeuf" - (french: beef. sounds like Bufe)

"Ca y est" - (french: there it is. sounds like "sah-yay")

and lastly:

Bichon Frise. french name for a dog breed. the name is so ridiculous that it fits perfectly.

Bichon Frise

HELL YEAH!!!!

LMAO!!!

This dog's name is hilarious!!! I had a guy who worked with me who, although he knew the correct pronunciation, purposefully said "BITCHIN' FREEZE" when he'd talk to a customer(every year, we're plagued with these calanders @ work & little old ladies love 'em)!

I can amend that by only saying that mis-pronounced words really agitate me. Or words that have multiple pronounciations.

Most recently, I noted how my family pronounces my name. Somehow they manage to squeeze a "y" sound in it... like "Nyyyyack." No, it's NIK. We don't have to play cutesy and give it more length than it needs.
