[Despite his lack of general adventurousness, Leon has gone into the tunnels all by his lonesome. He needs something to do to take his mind off disappearing friends. He hadn't had a lot of time to become awfully friendly with Alfons, but it's had a bit of a domino effect -- thinking of Lymle, Quartre, Ahiru...
He just needs to get away a bit. What better way than to sit down and take things apart? He's no Precis, and he's a more short-tempered than usual, so he practically tears things out of room wall socket.
