It'll be my first Halloween here, too. Hope it'll be a good one; it'd stink if there was some kinda experiment.

Huh... That's right. You just missed it last year, didn't you, Ven?

Yeah, by a few days, at least. I showed up on... November third, maybe?

[He nods slowly. So he had first talked to Ven when he had just arrived.] Well, you didn't miss out on anything fun, that's for sure.

Was it really that bad?

I guess after that last experiment, you won't be surprised to hear people were forced into costumes. But... I don't know. It was a very creepy experiment. Hallucinations that grew more vivid throughout the week. I'm not sure how else to describe it.

Hallucinations? Were they like nightmares?

More like... You could have sworn you saw something scary, but passed it off as a trick of the light. And then you start hearing voices, or blood and cobwebs where there shouldn't be anything.

It was weird. I'm sure a lot of people were paranoid after that experiment.

I bet. I know I would be if something like that happened to me.

Sure hope it's not that bad this year.

I hope so, too. I'm not sure what's worse -- experiments that physically hurt you or ones that turn your mind against you.

I think they're both really bad, just in different ways.

Yeah. Healing from mental things is ... considerably more difficult, though. Especially with magic available. [He sighs a little.]

That's true. Wounds can heal over time-- especially with magic, but something like fear is a lot harder to beat.

Ugh. Fears. Especially extreme fears. I don't have any that make me freeze up, but I'm sure there's gotta be a few here with that problem.

I think we've all got fears, but some people have more than others, and some people have worse fears than others.

...Yeah. [He has to take a moment to collect himself, knowing they're just going to drag this topic along if he doesn't bring it back to something else.] I wonder what's the point of making a certain month--or a certain week--so frightening for us?
