I am sitting in an internet cafe just down from cooper square in the east village. new york is better than i thought it would be. the people aer friendly, everything is absolutely massive, the prices are generally reasonably affordable, and it feels quite safe. its such a massive place, so many people and so many places and streets, so much complexity. its absolutely enthralling. i arrived here yesterday afternoon, the flight was easier than expected in some ways, but incredibly uncomfortable, the seats became incredibly small after the first few hours! on the way to L.A i was sat next to a really lovely middle aged couple from Ohio, and they were great to talk to. After our brief transit the plane was dramatically emptied and i sat by myself for the trip. everything so far has happened with no complications, its been much easier and comfortable than i thought it would be. i really like this place. theres so much happening, i cant wait until i have caught up on sleep so i can properly enjoy it. today nick and i have been wandering around the east village and greenwich willage, as well as little italy, where we are staying (really nice location, everything is so close)and chinatown. i am enjoying being so little and anonymous. not meaning i was not anonymous anywhere else, but theres justso many people here and so many things that i dont make any difference whatsoever. we have cable tv at our apartment and its absolutely crap, but intriguing at the same time. theres about 80 channels, and about 70 of those are total shit. we are still watching it anyway in out spare time. theres a few good ones there. so much fast food!! disgusting but again intriguing, and i vow to eart a shitload of it. everything is huge, we went to mcdonalds today and i ordered a large coke and it was massive, we estimated about 800mls. and nick got a kids meal which consisted of a double cheeseburger and the equivalent of a medium chips and a large coke in australia. the differences are great. theres a lot of similarities but a tonne of cultural differences. okay done.
