It's been a few days, so I'm overdue another post and this might end up being a bit of a day by day synopsis more than anything else.
Sunday we went to Mt. Rainier for the day. We went around the same time last year when Alex was just starting to toddle around so it was fun to compare the differences. Last year we didn't make it out of the meadows. This year we hiked up to Glacier Vista and back, encountering numerous snow fields. Alex did some walking on the way up (mostly on the paved parts) then got out at Glacier Vista and played in the snow and walked almost all the way back down. He especially enjoyed the more "technical" part of the hike where he got to navigate the stair-like rocks and snow fields. It wasn't until we got back on pavement that he got bored and asked to go back into the backpack. Silly kid.
Monday was pretty average. Grocery shopping day. Although, I remain seriously proud of myself every time I go when I note that I spend almost my entire time in the grocery store in either the fresh food sections. A very low percentage of our shopping happens in the dry good/can good aisles which I personally find amazing since I grew up on Hamburger Helper.
Today was also a fairly average day. Alex and I made a quick trip to UPS to return my Bodybugg (the sensor cracked and is still under warranty) then went to the park by Woodinville H.S. for a bit. There was another woman there with her almost 3-year old twin boys and Alex had a pretty good time watching them play. Yes, watching. He still prefers to do his own thing when other kids are about, but he does his thing NEAR the other kids so he can observe a bit, too. Actual interactions are fairly low unless the other kid instigates it. When that does happen, Alex is typically okay with it - unless the other kid seriously crowds his personal space - so I'm not terribly worried. Maybe it's a sign that it's time for more active socialization, though.
