February Reading List

Mar 02, 2009 19:09

I stopped blogging about what I was reading some time ago, but I think the time may have come to resume.  Partly because I'm going too far in between posts without discussing reading.  And partly because I'm excited that I've found a monthly reading challenge!

The Paranormal Romance Group over at www.goodreads.com (of which I'm a member) started issuing monthly reading challenges.  It's not as simple as just "read x number of books this month" either.  In February the challenge was to read nine books by authors that are new to you.

Unfortunately I didn't discover the challenge until February 15th - which left me a pitifully short 13 days in which to read these nine books.  Luckily, I had actually already read one book by a new author in early February.  Luckier still, I have a very large "to-be-read" queue and actually had 8 more books by new authors on my shelves just waiting to be picked up.  Still, I usually average a book every other day, so 8 books in 13 days was a challenge.  Lucky for me (it's all about perspective) I'm not working right now, so I actually did manage to complete the challenge on time.

Here's a list of the books I read in February:

Bitten (Women of the Underworld, Book 1)*Kelley Armstrong2/1/2009436One Bite With a Stranger (The Others, Book 6)Christine Warren2/2/2009343Moonstruck (Borderlands, Book 1)Susan Grant2/3/2009378Wanderlust (Sirantha Jax, Book 2)Ann Aguirre2/4/2009312Awaken Me Darkly (Alien Huntress, Book 1)Gena Showalter2/5/2009306The Snow Queen (Tales of the Five Hundred Kingdoms, Book 4)Mercedes Lackey2/9/2009408Never Been Witched (Triplet Witch Trilogy, Book 3)Annette Blair2/10/2009276Pride (Werecats, Book 3)Rachel Vincent2/11/2009425The Invisible Ring (A Black Jewels Novel)Anne Bishop2/13/2009398Star Shadows (Oasis, Book 3)Colby Hodge2/15/2009358Fantasy Lover (Dark-Hunter, Book 1)*Sherrilyn Kenyon2/16/2009337Night Shift (Jill Kismet, Book 1)*Lilith Saintcrow2/18/2009326Moongazer*Marianne Mancusi2/20/2009355Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks, Book 1)*Jennifer Rardin2/22/2009300What's a Ghoul to Do (Ghost Hunter, Book 1)*Victoria Laurie2/22/2009292Howling at the Moon (Tales of an Urban Werewolf, Book 1)*Karen MacInerney2/23/2009373Immortals:  The Calling (Immortals, Book 1)*Jennifer Ashley2/24/2009357Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 1)*J.R. Ward2/26/2009404Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 2)J.R. Ward2/27/2009449
As you probably guessed, the nine with asterisks (*) are the nine that qualified for the Challenge.  The seriously crazy part is that there are NINETEEN books on that list.  I'm pretty sure nineteen books in a month is a personal record, not even considering that it was nineteen books in a twenty-eight day month!!

This brings me to a favorite (and apparently personally applicable) quote by author Louisa May Alcott:  "She is too fond of books, and it has turned her brain."
