Return to the Realm of the Working Folk

After an absence of exactly 20 months, I have returned to the world of full-time employment!  Yay!

Today was my first day at work at Massage Heights.  I actually interviewed with four different local massage spas, clinics & chiropractic offices and received offers from three of them, but Massage Heights was the best fit.

The first place was a multi-use spa with a very small massage team.  I felt that the business was spread out among too many things with not enough emphasis on the massage aspect.  They also had very conservative client draping procedures that would have made practicing my favorite massage modalities very difficult if not impossible.

The second place was was a massage clinic, but was also pretty small with only 4 rooms.  The big bummer, though, was that they had a very small amount of designated employee space (i.e. break room, etc) and the small room they did have was open to the main hallway and was also used as the owner & manager office.  The place just seemed to small for so much hustle & bustle.

Massage Heights, however, is just right!  It's a relatively large massage clinic - 8 rooms including a couples room.  And, there's a fairly large employee break room.   The best part though is that the manager/owner and all my co-workers seem to be not only competent but laid-back, helpful & friendly.

Today was mostly paperwork and learning the ropes.  They offer a couple of spa treatments (aromatherapy, hot stone massage, foot scrub, & hot/cold face treatment) as upgrades (they call them "elevations") to each massage, so I learned how to do those today, too.  Tomorrow will be my first actual client as well as some additional practice of the elevations I learned today.

Wish me luck!

good news!, my day
