I must be Mad.

Well, that was a weekend and a half. I worked both days - extra Temp work for Xmas - and went and saw a movie on the Saturday night. So that was seven days straight of working - and I'm still going. Yeah, well, it pays the bills. And the movie was Avatar and I saw it with mr_razorz  at the 10.40pm session and it was awesome. Although I now think of it as "Dances with (Alien) Wolves" and suspect Greenpeace may have funded it. :) Yeah, it was chock-full of cliche and telegraphed plot turns but I liked it and give it an 8/10. Yup. And also...  Giant blue alien elves kick ass!!! And | seriously want one of those dragon-bird things. The friendly blue ones, not the big scary red ones. And I kept forgetting how much bigger the Na'vii were till they started shooting those feathered broomsticks into humans! :) And I think it obvious that the hero was not a military strategist. I mean, cavalry charges against machine guns haven't worked since... Actually, they've never worked.  After spending a fair bit of the movie emphasising how jungle-ninja-stealthy these guys are, they went for the noisy mass charge? Honestly, they could have snuck up on the humans and peppered 'em full of arrows before they even saw them coming. Hell, their arrows can penetrate one of those walking tanks with ease. (sigh) guess they just wanted to give the horse clans something to do. And... the ambush? Of the aircraft? They're flying along under the mountains. Drop some really big rocks on them guys, and if there's anyone left, THEN do the dogfight! Agh! There's a time for the honourable, face-to-face encounter and it's not when your whole planet is one the line!!!  Don't get me wrong, still loved it. It's been a while since I saw an action movie which made me care about the characters. Usually, once the body count reaches double figures I start to switch off and think - "Yeah, but why are you doing it all, anyway?" Oh and the 3D was fricking awesome, though you kind of forgot about it about 20 minutes in. Which was probably a good thing as it meant it was not the main feature of the story... But I have slept (a little now) and only have a couple more days of work and then can sleep in. Oh yeah, and there's the christmas thing too, I suppose.
