A very badly trashed couple of aisles revealed that Sir Thursday was back, and not happy about it. Nothing was really broken, but there were plenty of books strewn over the floor, a few loose pages were scattered here and there and in one place a shelf was knocked askew.

What had happened before he came back hadn't improved his mood any. "Blasted ( Read more... )

I would say that I told you so, but that would be...rather upsetting for you in your current state of mind.

Er.
Maybe you should...calm down a little?

Calm down? Calm down? I've been attacked by Nithlings with actual discipline, had my squad, my marshalls, and my entire army defy me in succession, lost my Key, and been thrown in my own damn dungeon! I am not going to stand here and listen to a dead man tell me to calm down!

[But he does calm down as that last bit hits him and he starts to remember this place.]

Dead man... Monday... You're dead. One of Saturday's... [groan] I'm back in that library.

Yes, I do believe I am in fact dead. In one timeline, in any case.
You don't recall the very long conversation we had last time you were in here, do you?

[Also, he's now in possession of a black-and-white sword suspiciously like the First Key for some reason. It's strapped to his back by a leather binding. ]

I seem to have forgotten it when I was returned to the House, but it's starting to come back now.

Hooray for you!

[ cheerful smile. where has he been to make him like this?
He draws the sword and idly swings it, the weapon making an unpleasant humming sound as it moves. ]

Well, you seem to be worse for wear. And still rather irritable, to boot. Would you like a drink?

You have no idea. At least I don't have to listen to the snake anymore.

I think I could do with one, yes. Where did you get that?

Ah well. That's one consolation.

Oh, the sword? I got it from my clone. It tried to burn me alive. It was rather unpleasant.
The noise it makes is far from desirable, but it's a functional weapon.
[ Off we go to find something to drink. Yay! ]

... And just how long have you had a clone?

lazy_mondays August 15 2009, 07:08:22 UTC
A few days at the most. I managed to set it on fire.

Why do you ask?

[Thursday feels he's missed something important here.]

Why did you have a clone, and why were you trying to set each other on fire?

lazy_mondays August 15 2009, 07:12:55 UTC
It was an evil clone, obviously.

[As if this explains anything. Monday finally seems to pick up on why Thursday is confused, though.]

Different timeline. I never went back to the House after the first time I arrived in the library, I woke up in Nautilus instead.

I see, you seem to have traded sloth for an inability to pick up on implied questions. Why did you have a clone at all?

... Nautilus. Isn't that some kind of sea creature on Earth?

Well, you've changed and I've changed and I've got rather more things to occupy my mind now, so I suppose so.

It's a city where everyone goes when they..wake up. In a sense. It's a little hard to explain.
As for the clone, the city changed. Half the inhabitants got clones. Most of them tried to kill the originals.

[Oh, here we go. Now Thursday can finally get his drink. ]

Somehow I doubt it's that you've got more to occupy you so much as that you're actually bothering to occupy yourself with it now.

... [He's not even going to attempt to comment on that. If he didn't need that drink before, he does now.]

[ Monday hands a drink to him. He's got a feeling that Thursday isn't going to particularly mind what it is.]

Impending doom, an upcoming tournament and nightmares is enough to occupy my time, really. As well as other things.
Mostly trying to be friendly.

[Accepts the drink gratefully]

What sort of impending doom?
