wow... that was some really good information... and given all that information and the knowledge that most of the article was about the lack of sterility in the gun piercing, and knowing that infants are very unsterile people and will grab anything and then their newly pierced ears.. why would you do it?

the major issue with guns imo is how they can damage the tissue on the ear & you can avoid that with a needle & you can avoid much of the lack of sterility issues with a needle. i dont have an issue with ear piercing in children or babies, i dont have a BIG reason for doing it, i just don't have an issue with it. i hardly would call it 'abuse' or 'cosmetic surgery' i think each parent should make choices for their own child & people should butt out of other peoples parenting choices personally. as a parent, i know i HATE getting unwanted advice from other parents & i'm sure most other parents here do too.

since this isnt p101 i didnt really think i was trying to give advice, im just curious about why people do the things they do. ::shrug::

i wasnt talking about you, i was talking about in general & in the whole thread a lot of people get on their high horses & say how bad parents are that pierce their childrens ears. i can think of a whole lot worse things you can do to a child or infant than piercing ears.

I reason I support needles instead of guns is because it's less traumatic to the surrounding tissue (less chance for scarring, too), it's much easier to get placement correct, a needle is easier to properly sterilize than a gun, and needles are generally wielded by professional piercers instead of some 16 year old with an after school job.
