No, it is never acceptable.

Yes, teachers should know how to spell "diarrhea". :P

Yeah, the spelling bothers me more... I hope she gets fired for the misspelling and also the emoticon. That is just wrong, wrong, wrong!

Not even remotely appropriate and the spelling would bother me too.

Special education teachers of all people should be well-versed in creative ways to deal with adolescent problems. If that were my child I might ask to have him moved to a different classroom, depending on how the teacher handled it and her attitude afterwards.

perhaps "dairiha of the mouth" wasn't covered at the school she attended.

I would ask to change schools. And I'm glad the media was alerted. I hope the teacher was embarrassed. I mean, couldn't she at least look up the word?

I wasn't sure if the spelling was yours or hers until the end. :) For the simple fact she can't spell diarrhea, I wouldn't want her teaching my child. Taping the mouth shut is going a bit too far.

Uh. No, never acceptable. That teacher showed horrible judgment. I think she should be allowed to come back to work, but she owes that boy a serious apology and should probably go around with "I'm an ass" taped to her mouth for a week.

And, yes, the fact that she couldn't even spell out her happy little note correctly pisses me off even more.
