progress on the Chair of DOOOOOM! rawr!

Apr 17, 2011 19:15

so, after the comedy of errors of last week, i got most of the stuff i need for the chair this weekend - matching fabric for the seat cushion, because the original fabric hasn't been continued - not sure why, but it must not be so popular.  found bead trim i like that works, not sure if it's enough, but it'll be back in stock pretty soon, got extra upholstery thread in case i can't find the old stuff.  got more expensive suede than i was looking for, and it's black and patterned, but that's ok.  forgot to get the foam cushion inserts!  this is probably because i stumbled upon a nice cross-stitch piece i *had* to have, and then some black tapestry/brocade-grade fabric 'remnant', and i'm trying to hold all of this in my hands with no basket, because if i get a basket at hobby lobby i *know* i'm in trouble!  hah.  but i know hobby lobby has the cushion inserts, so i'll pick them up tomorrow after work or something.

today, i managed to get a good start on re-covering the chair.  which is to say, i did the bottom base in the black suede.  i probably should have stitched the rolled over edges down, but for my first re-upholstering experience ever, it looks pretty good.  and i'm glad i decided to recover the bottom, because it really does give it a nice finished look.

set-backs:  there always seem to be some.  i forgot that the screws holding the top-base and the bottom-base were loose, not really holding the two together anymore.  in addition - there's only 4 of them.  aiee.  i replaced the old screws with 2.5" drywall screws, and i was going to drill new holes for 4 more screws, but the ryobi drill bits need an adapter to fit in my ryobi drill gun!  probably, i have an adapter that will work, but it's not much at the hardware store.  that really needs to be the next step before i start in on the top base.

so i stopped for the day - but yes, i am taking pictures!

otoh, i'm happier today than i was last week.  hopefully, this means chris-in-my-head is happier too.  i don't worry about buck - that old charmer is *always* happy!
