indulging in my mean streak...

i've decided more people need to go to Hawai'i and experience the wonder that is poi...

...so they get it when i say that should i ever get married, i want a luau for my reception, with the poi and the chocolate pudding right next to each other.  both unlabeled.

I've been to Hawaii and I've never had poi, what's it taste like?

unfortunately, it's a taste experience you must have on your own, without prior information given to the taste-ee. it's a thing, it's just the way it's done. i'm not sure where else you'd get it, as it's a fairly ethnic product - perhaps one can order it online? maybe.

hmm. I did have wonderful seafood and Thai food and fruit smoothies and other goodies when I was there, I'm satisfied with that.

.
My dad told me it was definitely 'an acquired taste', so not eager to try. But does it look like chocolate pudding? I always pictured it as white.

oh, no. it's the spittin' image of chocolate pudding. i have... rather bemused memories of taking a big spoonful on the theory if it looked like chocolate pudding, it must *taste* like chocolate pudding. aeriyana's description of it is pretty accurate, though, so i ended up with this big spoonful of the most wretched taste i could imagine in my mouth, trying not to spit it out, because that would be *rude*. and i was 12 or 14 or so, so i knew to be on my best behavior!

*shakes head*

it's the sort of experience you'd like to share with all an sundry, if only because you've got a hidden camera set up to catch their expressions upon tasting poi.

HAHA! I just watched Biehn in Hawaii (older television show, he plays a detective) and he's so very native to the island but his partner is a Chicago-transplant and easily confused by everything. I was hoping they would get the partner to try the poi but the series didn't last that long, darn.

I like poi. And it is an acquired taste, like Vegemite/Marmite. And like Vegemite/Marmite, I've never eaten it by itself.

Got any sugar in it? If so I can't have it lol If not then if we ever get stationed in Hawaii then I'll try it and share my wretched experience :)
