In celebration of Halloween and October, I thought I'd share some new photos I took. I've always been a fan of the Universal Monsters, ever since I was a little kid. Whether it's the Expressionistic aesthetic of the earlier films, or the great make-up and costume effects of the later films, these monsters captured my imagination and never let go.
When I heard earlier this year that they were releasing new toys of these classic characters, I couldn't help but get excited. Especially since it was Diamond Select, who produces some very awesome collector-focused stuff. I finally got my hands on the first series of these guys, and they are fantastic. I put them in my studio, and took the following shots. Looking at them after processing, it almost feels like I'm looking at old production shots. As always, Enjoy!
The first series consists of three basic monsters (The Mummy, The Creature, and The Wolf Man) that come with fairly detailed bases for them to stand on (Toys'R'Us exclusives); and two deluxe figures: The Mummy comes with his sarcophagus, and The Creature, who comes with the leading lady from his first outing and a larger base (available from your local comic book shop). It looks like Frankenstein's Monster and his bride are going to be in Series 2, and if they're anything like the first series, I can't wait.
If you click on any of the above pictures, it will take you to my Flickr page (also available
here), so you can see these photos larger, and other shots I've taken.
