New Fandom/New 'Ship Alert

Title Otherwise Known as "Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be 'shipping Colonel Klink as a character, but here I am...."

Recently I had been looking for a new show to get myself into. I am weird because I think newer shows are usually crap and it needs to take a big name PR campaign for me or something else to try. Still I had no idea I would pick one that went off the air 4 years before I was born...yes I have become a fan of the comedy Hogan's Heroes! :D

People will say "Booey, didn't TV Guide rank that show as the 5th worst shows of all time?" and I would say "Yes, but it is actually underrated and only because we live in a hyper politically correct world". I can see people would be offended by a show set in a Nazi prison camp. But still...the show is funny. Not all life is meant to be serious and this show aired originally much closer to that time period when emotions would be much more raw. But enough about that.

It has won my heart for insisting on casting a black regular when 60s segregration was still the rage. The show did not have any female regulars really (and they actually sometimes were downright sexist and its funny a feminist like me would like) and the times when they did have one were "Girl of the Week" episodes and by far are sometimes the worst episodes I've seen. But mostly because...

This show had to have been one of most (probably unintentionally) slashy shows ever to exist. It is campy (pun intended I guess) along orginial Star Trek. Basically Colonel Hogan has Colonel Klink under his finger for the entire series and it makes for a great OTP and boy do I love my advesary and frenemy 'ships. Look at my list on my profile and see my ships are rival politicans, boss/employees - basically if there is a challenge thrown its a great candidate for being my ship. Because romances are never easy rides and I like to see conflict there and nothing like captured POW/lead incompetent German in charge as in this one. It helps that in the series the late Bob Crane flirts outrageously with both genders and better with males. Why oh why is the HH slash community so small when so much material? I mean its a show SET IN A PRISON. I'm sure prison show Orange Is The New Black has plenty of femmeslash. I wonder if the gay innuedo was secretly part of HH for a reason -- they were at forefront of black rights, see above --but maybe overthinking. I just hope the rampant gay innuedo was not in there to promote homophobia during the time. D:

There are those who absolutely hate the Hogan/Klink 'ship because they say Hogan uses/abuses Klink for the entire series and they say that doesn't make for a healthy 'ship. And that's fine - I get it. But then you probably shouldn't 'ship the Hogan character with anybody then because Hogan uses EVERYBODY to some extent on the show and that includes the main female loves of Tiger and Hilda!

I would love to see a HH remixed into a movie and maybe they can account for some of the flirting. Can you imagine Hogan trying to seduce Klink to get info? They are redoing Gilligan's Island and the Professor is most likey gay in it (since he turned down Ginger in the show) and if a producer can see that sort of thing for that show...

hogan's heroes, fangirly things
