Join the Joy Campaign !
I just wanted to share a little bit of what I believe is a campaign that will help educate the country about sexual violence as well as bettering the world for everyone around us.
I joined the Angela Shelton Joy Campaign and volunteered to be the team leader for the state of Washington.
Angela Shelton is a filmmaker best known for her award winning documentary, “ Searching for Angela Shelton”. Since the release of that film, men and women have stepped up to reveal that they too have been impacted by violence and abuse or know someone who has survived. “Searching’” has also been a catalyst for a new book coming out April 1, 2008 called “Finding Angela Shelton.” This goes deeper into the subject of how Angela found healing and recovery from her wounds, and how when a person heals themselves, they are one step closer to healing the world of abuse, specifically sexual violence.
We are excited to be launching what is called the ‘Joy Campaign’. We want to spread the word that victims of abuse and violence are not doomed to a life of suffering. We believe joy is spread when people join together in unity and stop suffering in silence. Also, we believe that when survivors heal themselves, they are directly helping to lessen the overall grip violence and interpersonal tragedy has on society as a whole. We are challenging people to spread the word about the new Joy Campaign and “Finding Angela Shelton” by forming teams individually by state. This makes up the collective community of people committed to speaking out and reporting victimization. We are forming our own ‘Army of Angels’ to stand up and speak out in support of one another in the journey healing ourselves, in hopes of healing the world of the effects of sexual abuse.
Like many of those in our army, Angela comes from the world of abuse. Yet, through tragedy we have survived and know that together we can make a difference. We want everyone to know about and take an interest in The Joy Campaign. Your participation in this campaign will be greatly appreciated. We would love to have you on board either by joining the campaign, sharing our story or linking to

I am planning on talking to Barnes and Nobles about possibly having local actresses read excerpts of the book at the downtown Seattle store on the day the book is released ( April 1st).
You can start by purchasing ( pre ordering) the book “Finding Angela Shelton” and encouraging other survivors and activists against violence to do the same. We want as many people as possible to know that when they heal themselves they begin to heal the world. The next steps are listed on the site. You can find your state and begin campaigning for a better world. Thank you for your time and assistance with our campaign. We look forward to working with you!
http://www.findingangelashelton.comhttp://www.angelashelton.com ps= you don’t have to be a woman to join us. it is extremely important that men break their silence too and that they support survivors by showing up and speaking up.
you also don’t have to have been a victim or be a survivor in order to support this movement and this cause. what is truly awesome about it, is that it isn’t about raising money. it is about sharing, having conversations, getting the book out there and all around raising awareness of the epidemic.
If you are in Washington state, I've made a facebook group to keep people updated on the events.
