            School Junk Food

In the debate “Should schools allow the sale of junk food?” Mrs. Johnson and Ms. Stewart don’t see eye to eye. Mrs. Johnson believes that junk food should be sold at schools, while Ms. Stewart thinks otherwise. Mrs. Johnson seems to have the upper hand
in this debate. The sale of junk food should be allowed at school. For the following reasons: money for the school, kids get a choice, and the parents raise them.

First and for most, everyone says that schools don’t have enough money. Well if they sell junk food their profits would increase by a lot. As Mrs. Johnson said, “ Students will buy anything that costs under a dollar, is portable, flavorful, visually appealing, and give them a quick pick-me-up.” Asking students such as Caitlin say, “ This is true sometimes we just fall sleep in class. Even teachers I have had say that their most up class is after the break, such as after nutrition and lunch. Thought Ms. Stewart makes a good pint with, “ Well, student health is more important then making money.” This is true but the schools could use the money for useful teaching supplies. Also junk food every once in a while doesn’t hurt, just exercise and watch what you eat at other times.

Secondly, the kids have the right to make their own decisions. If they are going to grow you have to treat them like young adualts. Nhiel said, “ This is good, because is gives then a sense of the real world, where decisions must be made all the time; it’s good practice.” What if freedom of choice was taken away, what would people have left? Ms. Stewart said, “ Let’s guide them to lifelong eating habits!” Well this would be good but what are we going to do, brainwash them? Everyone treats themselves at some point, even if not often, we are not all perfect eaters. Even people that are in good health have fast food and go out at times. Home cooked meals are not always the best for you, but they do taste the best.

Lastly, the parents raised the child, even is they don’t admit it, they influenced their child’s choices. As a parent they should teach the child right, wrong, also healthy and not healthy. Like Mrs. Johnson, “ I do not claim any medical expertise, but I am a teacher and a mother.” The saying is “A mother knows best,” with that said the parents should bring the kid up right. Though parents can’t watch their child’s every single move and choice, they should at least give them the knowledge to know good from bad.

To conclude, the sale of junk food in schools should be allowed. Parents and teachers can work together to teach the children good health, but it is still the child’s decision. Give the child the freedom of choice and making their own decisions. Have schools make more money, it’s a win win situation. Children get the choices and schools get the money for teaching supplies. It works out.
