I am so so tired of watching people being rescued from rooftops while floodwaters claim most of their earthy belongings. I mean I get it, right? I know this terrible thing happened and I get it. I mean, I get it first hand stylie, not conceptually.
The thing that is so infuriating about this rooftop rescue stuff is that it's now being used for the entertainment value of it all -- it makes good tele. That is just disgusting.
The truth of the whole matter is that yes, that flooding and rescue stuff happened here, but it's not the average. The average was getting out of the city and thanking the sweet lord that you were safe. And those who had to stay behind, yes it is extremely sad and depressing and my heart goes out to them...
...but I get it. I don't need to see it every five minutes to understand the magnitude of the situation.
The purpose of this all is what? To make me thankful? I was thankful before, when I was in a shelter, with no electricity or water...
And now that I'm living in the French Quarter, I am still thankful.
These networks are exploiting this footage as disaster porn -- for entertainment and gratification and "reality."
That being said, the refridgerators here stink to high heaven. My friend Lori couldn't get her's open, so she took that as a sign to avoid confrontation and just bought a new fridge.
Today was wandering around the Quarter taking pictures and such.
Beautiful day.
