Well, the bible tells us in Genesis that God made Earth because it pleased him, but he needed someone to take care of it -- that was man. We should fear God. He is our creator, and we are currently at war with him. We have put ourselves at odds with God. Also, we are not better than the other animals in the fact that we fear pain and like pleasure. God is incomprehensible, and that can be painful. We don't like to think of ourselves as small and weak, but by definition God must be inevitably bigger and stronger than us.

Religious people don't necessarily pick on Atheism, but it is a system of non-belief that tends to quite vigourously pick on religious people. Atheism is not a belief, it is the opposite; it denies the fact that there is a God, and that man was created by him. This naturally affronts us, but you are right; TOLERANCE is important (not acceptance. That would be giving up). Because you think something is true does not make it true - the truth is an objective standard, or else what good is it?

I would also like to mention that I have never met an Atheist, but I know a lot of Agnostics (who don't really believe anything, but need more proof; they also talk alot about "science")

Where do you draw the line between "Who a person is" and what they believe in? If you can separate the two, I tip my hat to you.

I'd like to talk to you more about this! :)

Thank you for some awesome insight.:) Everyone has their own views because God reflects on everyone in different ways. I feel that everyone has to have a belief in her. Knowing her name and not believing is a belief. There are many reasons that contribute to the loss or gain of faith. But ultimately, I feel that every level of faith should be accepted as a way of life. Well, unless the faith hurts others or themselves then their reflection of her is seemly destructive. But who profiles the faith and labels a certain belief as destructive?

Now I see why God is scrutinized often.

"The way of life is a mystery, but only you can discover your mystery"

I agree that there needs to be "Tolerance" among us but thats very different from "Acceptance".

"Tolerance" involves treating everyone with respect despite there differing opinions and actions. This is taught in different ways by the major religions. Tolerance is loving your neighbor as you love yourself (a commandment/teaching held by Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus ect.) THIS I agree with. Jesus even taught to love those who hate you, and persecute you, AND KILL YOU.

"Acceptance" is FAR from this. Universal acceptance is basically saying that everyones' opinion is "just as right as our own". If we as religious people even acknowledge that there is truth in the universe, then we can never accept everyones' belief due to the obvious contradictions from one faith, to the next.

So all of this is confusing and to make matters worse, having strong beliefs puts us in danger of "Passing Judgment on others" as well as "Pride". I've heard/read that the minute you think yourself a saint, you become less like one. (hence the need for Grace)

What are we to do then?? Hide in the woods? Keep silent about our beliefs? SURELY NOT!!! What does Jesus say?

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."
-Matthew 5:14

We are known by our fruits to be good but it CAN'T stop there. How will people "praise our Father in heaven" if they don't know Him? How greedy would it be of us to hide the light given to us?
