Last night was the acting showcase downtown for Terry's classes. This is the third one I've gone to and I have to say, it was the best one. Apart from the all the noise the kids made backstage, it went pretty much perfectly. Well, except for when I had to break down a scene and took the chairs offstage (the next scene was supposed to have them). But I ran back and set them up again and all was lovely in the world. There are a number of people who came and I was glad to see; Mike, Beth, Lexi, Ashton, and my dad. Plus there were a few of Terry's students whom I haven't seen since the last showcase; Billy, Iliana, and Tricia. So there was an excellent mingling environment. I was even happy with my performance, which was unusual for the showcases.
I'm just building up to the best part. That's what we call climactic build, children. Drumroll, please.... I got called! This morning! 8:45! I didn't answer because I figured it was someone from work asking if I could cover (although I was hoping it was someone from the showcase). Got the message and it was a casting director. Called her back within thirty seconds. She wants to keep me on file and she works with a lot of independent filmmakers. So I'm a little giddy. GIDDY, I say. See? There was a reason I had straight hair for the scene.
In other, more general news, it's summer. I'm finished at Miracosta. That's plenty weird but it hasn't sunk in yet. I decided on UCSD for next year. Can't tell you how tough of a call that was. The area is better for acting than Berkeley and that played a big part in it. I still can't believe I said no to Berkeley. Well, I can always transfer later. There was a sort of "fateful encounter" that nudged me toward UCSD. It was actually a huge coincidence, and I went with it.
Not too much else to say. It's been a busy month or so. Maybe I can relax. Maybe even blog occasionally, who knows?
