When I'd exhausted the vault of clips from the Daily Show at the Comedy Central website, I turned to Canadian programming (namely, The Hour) to fill my mundane hours of procrastination. I caught Georgie Stromtrumplelumplelous interviewing some interesting people like Barbara Walters and Sarah Pahlin and Robert Munsch, but the guy who really caught my cogwheels a thinkin was Georgie's interivew with Dana White, current president of the UFC.
The thing is that the UFC really became popular in the past few years. White credited the success to the way they marketed the show: focus on the people and the interest in the game itself will follow. That's why so many women, not the target demographic here, became part of the viewership. The ladies were in it for the personalities and stories, not the smashing and thrashing. And that is so totally true!
So I'm a boxing fan mostly because I'm really addicted to Hajime no Ippo, a manga and anime that's damned addictive. The character art is pretty horrible and the fights go on foreverrrrrrrrrrr.... BUT! The protagonist is a really sincere kid and the author did well in convincing the readership to sympathize with his obstacles and challenges. (And it doesn't hurt that the anime did a WICKEDAWESOME job in getting fantastic voice actors to do some serious work in conveying the hilarity.)
Because of Ippo, I'm totally into present day boxing. Now I don't know aaaanything about sincere boxing, but I'm really entertained by the people and the pomp they parade. Like Floyd Mayweather Jr. Talk about flashy! He was a complete arsebag in his fight with De la Hoya from spring 2007 but you know what? I think he does it because he knows it's fuggin hilarious. He's a troll I R L. And I honestly believe he's friggin talented and skilled. MAN I am so impressed with his defense, it is like redonk!!!
Anyways, boxing is an entertaining sport. And I totally forgot about the Sugar Shane Mosley vs Antonio Margarito fight!!!! Looks like Margarito was messing around with his bandages. Maybe that's why he had such a super duper punch? But I liked Mosley, he seemed so suave when he was helping De la Hoya for that spring 2007 fight with Mayweather Jr.
.... and now I can't remember why I started on this topic. :T Anyways, Ricky Hatton vs Manny Pacquiao in May 2009. That's gonna be a fun fight! I wonder when Mayweather is going to be in the ring again? I heard he's moving on into the entertainment world, but I'm sure he'll eventually find himself in the ring a few more times. He's still a young guy. I want to see him fight some more! LOVE THAT SHOULDER ROLL! s( * W *)9
