microtheory has really made me reconsider my economics major/life choices, and certainly does NOT maximize my utility. Are you in that class where the professor has to scale everything majorly because the average score is always like a 20? My friend at UMass's roommate is taking that class this semester and he said that no one ever gets above like a 30 in that class. Not that I really should be talking. Everyone in my class does so bad that my professor doesn't even gives percentages, just the number of points you have off. I think if I knew my raw score I really could cry.
Micro made me want to drop down to a econ minor instead of having to suffer through 5 more econ classes... however I'm hoping that there's a light at the end of this awful tunnel and all subsequent econ classes will be more like, "haha, after micro theory I can do ANYTHING!"
And yeah, my first exam I got a 58, which was a B. A 60 was a B+. People got legit 0's on the first exam. I've never been so excited to get a 58 in my life. The good news is that I have this final this afternoon so after 3:30 today I am free of micro forever! (That is assuming I pass the class; what a nightmare that would be if I had to retake it.)
omg I legit just failed my microtheory final. Like I was writing down random stuff cause I had no idea how to do the math. I really hope you do well on yours! Looks like I'll be retaking it at some point. :-( Have you done macrotheory? Cause I LOVED macrotheory, it is WAY better than microtheory but it's still really hard. That class took over my entire life last spring and I only got a C. Just keep thinking: econ majors make $45,000-$60,000 right out of college.
There was a question on my final worth 30% and I had NO IDEA what it was talking about. I was like "bullshit bullshit bullshit partial credit??" Ugh. At least it's all over.
As for macrotheory, all the classes are full here so I'm waiting to see if any spots open up that I can jump into. I think macro is more interesting so hopefully macro theory will be better than this. However, I think just about anything is better than this was.
You should take it at Mt Holyoke in the spring with Jens Christiansen!! There was this boy from UMass who took it there last year with us (everyone was in love with him). I mean it's such an interesting class, but he's a tough grader (hence why I got the C).
I can't even believe one question would be worth 30%!! I guess mine were all worth 25% though since there were only 4 questions. but omggg I don't understand multi-variate calculus and I don't understand the inverse demand function and I am soo screwed. I just finished everything today and I am home now, so all I can do is worry about it until Jan 5th when grades come out. I hope the rest of your finals craziness goes well! I took stats this semester too and that final also killed me slightly, but taking intro stats instead of econometrics was the best decision I've ever made in my life.
