Yesterday I gave myself a paper cut on the lip, got ink all over my shirt, and got a haircut that, while not hideous, is totally not what I had in mind. I’m hoping today is better (except for the haircut, which I’m stuck with for a while).
I want to like recent seasons of DW - I like the new Doctor and Amy and Rory et al - but there’s something about the pacing that just makes me not enjoy the experience of watching. It’s just go-go-go all the time, there’s always peril and danger without any down moments, and it gives you no emotional arc or time to enjoy the storyline. Earlier in the reboot, you still had those manic moments but they were interleaved with slower ones so you could enjoy both kinds of pacing.
I don’t know why they’re doing this - to appeal to kids, or keep people’s interest? It makes watching it exhausting, and it ruins the appeal of the good storylines and acting for me. Am I the only one?
