on prayer and pumping

I have always been the type of person who prays sporadically throughout the day as thoughts come to me. Structured prayer is just not something that has stuck for me. But now that I have returned to work part-time, there are multiple times a day when I sit in a quiet room and breast milk for Caleb. There is a lot of potential for these times to become boring, so I have started praying while I pump. I never was the person who prayed down a list before, but hey! Now is my opportunity to become that person...

Yesterday there was a cool moment when I had been pumping and praying for a missionary family in Cameroon who had just lost their mother. As I was finishing up the pumping session, my phone dinged that a new email had arrived. It was from the father, sharing the news that the exact thing I had been praying about had just come through for the family!

A few days ago, I got to pray for a friend's son who had overdosed on morphine and was not expected to live. In fact, the organ donor guy had arrived on the scene and was ready to do his thing as soon as the young man passed away. Instead of praying for "God's will to be done," as is such a common prayer for Christians, many of us specifically shunned that prayer and instead chose to ask God for exactly what we wanted ... a full and ridiculously miraculous recovery for the young man. Guess what. It was a full and ridiculously miraculous recovery for him! There's no physical harm and no brain damage ... in fact, the guy was out surfing within two weeks of the incident. Wow!
  • I am praying now for the happy and healthy birth of my friend Lori's monster baby ... at 37 weeks pregnant, this baby is already expected to be 8 or 9 pounds! Let's see what happens.
  • And I pray for my friend Jessica and her sitcom-like challenges at the office.
  • For Chip and his ever-sick family.
  • For my husband who desperately needs sleep.
  • For Caleb to grow up healthy and strong and wise and creative and compassionate.
  • For various people in my church community group.
  • For my parents to have good friends.
  • For my brother and his wife to be best friends.
  • For Annie and Drew as they raise a family and serve their community.
  • For peace in this country and in the world.

Do you have anything you want prayer for during my pumping times?
